StarWizard — Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 12, 2026
StarWizard is an offline-first astronomy app made for stargazers, families and
beginners. We built it to collect as little as possible: no account, no ads,
no analytics or tracking SDKs, and no sale of data — ever. This page explains
the little that does leave your device, and why.
What stays on your device
- Your precise location — used only to compute your sky (which
stars are above your horizon). The full-precision coordinates never leave the
device.
- Settings and reminders — your preferences, language choice and
any sky-event alarms are stored locally. Reminders are scheduled with your
phone's own alarm system; no server is involved.
- The sky itself — star catalogues, constellations, events and
lessons are bundled with the app and computed on-device. The core app works
with no internet at all.
What is sent, and when
- "Ask the Wizard" questions (optional feature). When you ask
the AI a question, we send: your question, the sky information already shown
on your screen, your approximate location (rounded to roughly 10 km —
enough to know your sky, not your street), your interface language, and a
random anonymous device identifier used solely to enforce the
free daily question limit. This identifier is generated by the app, is not
derived from your hardware, and is not linked to your identity.
- Processing. Questions are relayed through our server and
answered using Anthropic's Claude API, subject to
Anthropic's privacy policy.
Our server logs contain timing, usage counts and a truncated device identifier —
never the content of your questions or answers.
- Satellite orbit data. The app periodically downloads ISS orbit
data from CelesTrak (a public astronomy data service). Like any web request,
this exposes your IP address to that service; no other information is sent.
What we never do
- No advertising, advertising IDs, or third-party trackers.
- No selling, renting or sharing of data with data brokers.
- No precise location off-device; no contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
Data retention & deletion
Everything personal lives on your device: uninstalling StarWizard removes it.
The anonymous question counter on our server resets daily and is not connected to
any identity. If you have questions or a request, contact us and we'll help.
Children
StarWizard is suitable for general audiences, including families. We do not
knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children included. The AI
feature sends only what is described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
